My Practice

My artistic practice has evolved over many years, unfolding through various stages of exploration and growth. I encountered encaustic painting early in my journey, at a time when there was little interest or available information about the medium. Much of my early work involved experimentation and discovery—gradually building a personal body of knowledge through trial and error.

My introduction to encaustic came through a friend who was a beekeeper, which gave me access to an abundance of wax as a medium. Today, encaustic painting has experienced a renaissance, but at that time I was working largely in isolation, developing my own methods and understanding of its unique materiality.

Over time, I began incorporating copper with patinas into my encaustic works. This experimentation reflected my Heideggerian influences—particularly the philosophy of “letting things be” within a framework of openness and material dialogue.

In the later stages of my practice, environmental concerns became central to my work, shaped by the principles of Deep Ecology. My focus turned toward endangered birds and the fragile ecosystems they inhabit, leading me to create experimental landscapes using encaustic and iron, materials that evoke the textures and attributes of the Australian landscape.
